Our Curriculum
In Early Years Foundation Stage, learning is underpinned by the 4 themes of the EYFS Framework:
-
Every child is a unique child.
-
Children learn to be strong through positive relationships.
-
Children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults.
-
Children learn and develop at different rates.
There is a balance between adult-led, and child-initiated learning. We introduce the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised phonics scheme. Children use the outdoor learning environment throughout the year.
In Key Stages 1 and 2, children experience a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum covering the National Curriculum requirements in:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- ICT
- RE*
- History
- Geography
- Art
- DT
- Music
- PSHCE
- MFL (in KS2)
*Please be aware that parents/carers have the right to withdraw children from any/all RE lessons.
Children receive daily lessons in English and Mathematics. In Key Stage 1 we continue with the Little Wandle phonics scheme and use a variety of reading schemes. Many subjects are taught through engaging topics, which cover more than one subject area. Children’s learning experiences include a range of visitors, and educational visits.
The school provides extracurricular clubs and activities, including choir and lessons on the guitar and ukulele. Homework is set regularly throughout the school.
